Understanding the ISO Vibration Zones

The standard defines four zones to classify machine condition. These are general guidelines, and it's always best to trend data over time and consider machine-specific history.

Zone A: Good Condition

The vibration of newly commissioned machines would typically fall within this zone. The machine is in excellent operational condition with no immediate concerns.

Zone B: Satisfactory Condition

This machine is considered acceptable for long-term, unrestricted operation. However, vibration values are higher than "good" and warrant continued monitoring.

Zone C: Unsatisfactory Condition

The machine is considered unsatisfactory for long-term continuous operation. Maintenance should be scheduled at the earliest opportunity to address the source of the vibration and prevent further damage.

Zone D: Unacceptable Condition

Vibration values in this zone are of sufficient severity to cause damage to the machine. The machine should be taken out of service immediately and corrective action taken as a matter of urgency.
